I've been there once Okay I've been there once I bought the hat And I bought a Christmas sweater Where the Bass is wearing a little Santa hat They do have a pretty good Christmas setup We went at Christmas time Yeah It was delightful The sweatshirt from what I recall Was also reasonably priced That's also when I've been to Bass Pro Shop Right I didn't do anything else

[00:01:57] I went straight to Santa's Village Once you get to the top floor That's where all the ammunition is Where the ammunition is And I was like Get me out of here Yeah No, that's fair That's fair Yeah It gets gunny in a hurry It gets gunny in a hurry There's something about the Bass Pro Shop Having a Santa Claus That is really funny It's like But they do go all out They go all out Of course they do They go Like it's Bass Pro Shops

[00:02:27] It's Cabela's Like they're going to go all out In any regard That would relate to folks That also like hunting and fishing So that is the crossover there The Venn diagram of hunters and fishers And Ryan and Bran Is Christmas That's where they connect Right there in the middle And there's a very Cool hat Yeah, cool hat Cool hat Yeah I just imagine you getting into weird conversations Because of the hat though Do you know what I mean? It hasn't happened yet Okay Should we go on a fishing trip?

Sure The Marvels The movie or the films? Let's do both Could we do both in one here? We're gonna talk about the movie In the grand scheme of the films

[00:04:56] Okay Alright I love it This movie premiered in Las Vegas Don't ask specifics No On November 7th, 2023 And then everywhere else Just three days later Short Little run time there On November 10th, 2023 And it went A little something Like this Carol Danvers You remember her? Oh, I do Oh, Cap Danvers Captain Marvel Captain Marvel Not There's a different Cap We call Captain America Sometimes we call him Cap That's right But we don't call Captain Marvel Cap No

[00:05:25] We wouldn't That would be too confusing She has already caused Plenty of problems For the Kree Am I right? But You said Destroying the Supreme Intelligence Has left Their world of Hala On the brink of collapse Ain't no Hala Batgirl That's I knew it was coming 30 years later The planet's basically out of air It's out of water It's out of sunlight It's out of fun

[00:05:54] And the Kree have given Carol a pretty B.A. new nickname I don't think this was her intention But I think it's a pretty B.A. name The Annihilator The Annihilator That's tough That's a tough name Honestly Pretty cool Kree leader Darbin Discovers One of two powerful quantum bands And uses it to rip open A jump point Through space Things are getting real I know Unfortunately

[00:06:24] This starts to mess With the entire Network of jump points Across the universe When Carol investigates One of them At the same time As Monica Rambeau Investigating another one The two somehow Get tangled up With a kid Named Kamala Khan Let's call her Miss Marvel Miss Marvel Just to really Complicate things We got Captain Marvel We got Miss Marvel

[00:06:52] Who happens to also have The other bands Whenever any of the three Uses their powers At the same time They switch places You wouldn't think that happened Very often Naturally That makes Fighting bad guys Very complicated After a chaotic encounter Destroying Kamala's house The three eventually Figure out What's happening And they team up And Kamala is pumped

[00:07:22] And decides We need a nickname We need a We need a trio name Something people Can call us by How about Let's really complicate things Let's call us the Marvels Sure Why the heck not The Marvels discover That Darbin is tearing Open jump points To steal resources From other planets And is putting the universe In serious danger In the process And because Darbin Blames Carol for everything She is targeting planets That are important To Carol The Marvels attempt

[00:07:52] To stop her And Darbin is destroyed When they are Trying to use the bands But that results In energy creating A tear between realities We hate when that happens The worst Absolutely Monica is able to Close the tear But ends up getting Stranded on the other Side of the tear In the process So rest in peace Obviously Obviously Back on Earth Kamala's brief experience Working with Carol And Monica Inspires her to start Looking for other

[00:08:21] Young heroes And they can team up Maybe we go to Kate Bishop From Archery It's Hmm Meanwhile Carol Heads to Hala And uses her powers To restore the planet's sun And that's good And what about Monica Well she's now Hanging out in another universe Where she meets An alternate version Of her mother And a very familiar Blue-furred Mutant scientist We'll see if it matters At all And that my friends Was

[00:09:49] Do not hold back And I am going to Kick it to Ryan I think If he's ready He does seem concerned He seems confused Deferred brow There's a lot happening Right guy So listen I My recollection of this From theaters Is that I thought It was a ton of fun I saw it as part Of a triple feature It was Killers of the Flower Moon Wow That That Nativity story musical Sure Dear God Bethlehem What a crazy Journey to Bethlehem

[00:10:19] This is one of the weirdest Triple features of all time Went to Arby's for dinner You might be the only person To have ever done it You started with Killers of the Flower Moon Went first And then went Birth of Jesus And then went Marvels Birth of Jesus musical Arby's And then you're like I'm thinking Marvels You went In Dolby Oh my god You started with Killers I can't imagine Watching Killers of the Flower Moon And then being like Give me two more movies At the theater And I love the movie theater

[00:10:48] You know who's in the Journey to Bethlehem movie Our boy Milo Manhunt Shout out Milo Dancing and singing Is he Crushed it in half Who is he He's Joseph Wow He's Joseph That's not I haven't seen it since But I remember Enjoying that film It was a fun little Toastopper Yeah Does Jesus get born? Is he Does it Do they do it? Yeah there's a post-credit scene Though which I actually Thought was like Pretty innovative But listen I mean We talked about this I was lower On the Marvels Definitely than Dan And Bran I'm sure you were Captain Marvel You mean Captain Marvel Excuse me

[00:11:18] You were definitely Higher on it Than I was as well But I do believe The success Of Captain Marvel Was a little bit Right time Right place And Dan I think You even agreed with that The fact that it was Coming out right before Yeah Yeah It was tough You know And so I think this movie On the flip side Was victimized by A strike And really poor promotion The worst promotion Yeah Yeah

[00:11:48] And so Listen Both things can be true I think column A And column B Can both have Merit But People were very down On this film And the box office Wasn't great I think it was the lowest MCU box office I think total Like under a quarter mil A quarter bill Right Like 250 things And so Like the The MO on this film Is that it was Horribly disappointing The true Like you know People didn't like Eternals And Thor Love and Thunder Was too wacky And now this movie Didn't make any money And it wasn't

[00:12:17] Critically received well I still really liked it Upon this rewatch I think it's I think it's wacky And I think you can Definitely make the argument That you know Thor Love and Thunder Is very very wacky And this movie Is very very wacky Deadpool and Wolverine Which we're reviewing next week Maybe isn't wacky But is certainly going For a specific type of Humor and crudeness And has the MCU Lost its way With that stuff But I still found this Enjoyable I mean

[00:12:46] This continues The lie Of Disney And Marvel Saying you don't need To see these Marvel Plus shows Because if you don't know Who Kamala Khan is That's right That's a problem Yeah Which I didn't At that point When I was out On the Marvel Plus shows Although I've heard That Ms. Marvel Is a very very enjoyable show I was just in and out On the Disney Plus shows At this point Enough of them Had let me down Moon Knight specifically But this is a direct continuation They maybe give you Five seconds Of setup

[00:13:16] As to who she is But she's already A superhero She's already got An established world And even Monica Rambeau Like if you didn't Watch WandaVision You have No idea None The movie takes No time To set her up Like And so That can be tough But I will also say And again I'm admitting That I like this movie And I imagine I'm going to have A higher bow For both than you Like It has a little bit Of Mandalorian And Grogu feeling to it Where it absolutely Could have been

[00:13:45] A four to six episode Disney Plus series As opposed to A cinematic feature But I still like that I think Brie Larson Has a lot more To do here Range wise Than she did In the first one And Or at least Maybe I just like Her playing wacky I felt the character To be a little more I don't know if Accessible is the right word But I just like This version Of the character And I also thought This was a clever way With them switching In and out of Their locations And their powers And what have you

[00:14:15] It's a clever way To do a Captain Marvel movie Because as we've talked about With her specifically She's too powerful At the cheat code And like making A solo movie Where she's not Taking on Thanos or above Is really kind of Complicated Because we as an audience Already know You need a kryptonite You need a clever Kryptonite for her Like the singing Dancing sequence Is utterly insane And I thought Maybe I hate it This time I still enjoyed it I have a Captain Marvel Dancing Funko Pop And I'm proud of it Heck yeah you do I don't know If I'd want this

[00:14:44] To be the vibe Of Marvel All the time But I can pretty Confidently say I actually can pretty Confidently say That I wouldn't want This to be the vibe Of MCU all the time But I liked it here I should have had Letterboxd up But I have this Middle of the pack Okay Middle of the pack folks Yeah There are several films We've watched recently That I would not Rewatch I would happily Watch this movie again I have this at 4, 8, 12, 16 17th overall And that's without Ranking next week's movie 17th Oh I think that is

[00:15:14] With next week's movie So it's like 16th at this point Yeah But literally Dead in the middle Dead in the middle I think Yeah I think it's a Wacky I think it's a Wacky weird But fun time Brand with fun Characters Even if a lot of People watching that Didn't have any idea Who they were So I didn't know Any of them were I definitely didn't Know Monica Rambeau From whatever the Show was What was it WandaVision That you guys WandaVision And then Ms. Marvel Is from Ms. Marvel Yeah

[00:15:43] No idea I've not seen Ms. Marvel either I felt like Ms. Marvel to me Maybe I just like Found her to be Endearing enough To where I did care But Monica Rambeau I know nothing about her Nor do I care to And I do think That made this movie Really tough for me To lock into I Kept thinking about Anything else While watching this movie And that's tough And I don't know If that's the movie's fault I don't know If it's the fact That I had zero

[00:16:13] Knowledge It's the 33rd When you've watched It is the movie's fault If you couldn't lock in To some extent Sure But would knowing Those two characters Have made this A more enjoyable Experience for me Would I have been Able to lock in I don't know The answer to that I do really like Captain Marvel And I think Brie Larson's Delightful But this movie did Nothing for me By and large I have this movie At 28

[00:16:44] Wowzers Out of 33 You're bordering On bottom 5 there Yeah Wow Yeah Yeah Yeah So I am I guess Splitting the difference Between the two of you I I loved Captain Marvel And I think If you love Captain Marvel Then the tonal shift In the continuation Of the Captain Marvel story Will bother you In this movie So if you're Rye Guy Who wasn't as high On Captain Marvel But did like The tone of this movie For the vibe That this movie Is giving off Then I see

[00:17:13] How Ryan got Where he got For me I love Captain Marvel This was like A Ragnarok-esque sequel Where we change A lot of the Captain Marvel character There's a lot of Jokes here There's a lot of Like silly stuff That happens And it doesn't really Land by and large For me The way that it Intended to The good news is Is the movie's Only a hundred minutes long One of the shortest Marvel movies Maybe the shortest Marvel movie So that helps

[00:17:43] Also what helps Is Tiana Paris And Iman Vela Are both excellent They're really great And it's cool to see The widening of representation Of what a superhero Looks like And I think that's wonderful Also shout out To Nia DaCosta Who I think Is one of our Preeminent Up and coming Horror directors She did The new Candyman Which is A blast She did The Bone Temple 28 years later The Bone Temple Another really fun time

[00:18:13] I don't know If her sensibilities As a director And the wacky Zany silliness Of this Work Her Delving into Females in power And females Like a female Bad guy And this Very interesting Tightrope Of wanting to say Something with also Being a silly movie Is interesting I just tonally Like I'm completely Off board Of the song and dance Number Like I don't Like Ragnarok is not

[00:18:43] Nearly as high for me As a lot of Other people have it But I appreciate That Thor was a Dead in the water Property And Taika Waititi Made it something Worth seeing again This to me Has the opposite effect Where It's fine And I think The people that They bring in And the fresh blood That they bring in Is really good But It just doesn't Work tonally With what Captain Marvel is Or what I want Out of a Marvel movie And so that's tough But it's breezy It's quick It's an hour 40

[00:19:12] I mean it's Borderline kids Movie length So there is that I have it at 23 So it was 16 23 28 So almost exactly Splitting the difference Between you two Let's get to all the feels When we talk about What in this movie Gave us feels Let's start with you Reg Hi They play a song Called Remix Of the song Called Trouble Which is featured Heavily in the 1995 film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The movie And that was really cool Can you sing that Can you sing it for me Uh oh We're in trouble

[00:23:14] What in the world That was good That was good right guy Apparently In the Apparently In the MCU Apparently Apparently Apparently They've never been on A real rollercoaster before Apparently in the MCU There's nothing more destructive Than being pummeled From a ceiling Collapsing in Which don't get me wrong To a regular human Would be rather devastating Oh yeah We'd be done If the ceiling But like In Multiverse of Madness I think it was

[00:23:44] I think it was Monica Rambeau's Alternate universe mother Like she dies Via the ceiling Collapsing Like that's not It's just Somebody in this movie It's like These people Have powers I think They'll be okay Yep And then How do the cats Not Know to eat The marvels They never try to eat Captain Marvel Interesting I never thought about this They never try to eat Monica Rambeau What a marvel What a marvel

[00:24:13] Yeah I should have saved it That's my bad That's my bad And that's it for me Bran Apparently Apparently I have to be honest With you The little song And dance Scene In this movie Is my least favorite Scene in all of Marvel I think that's fair I just really love it It's polarizing Yeah I actively hated it And I could not wait For it to be done And it felt like It went on forever That's this That's the problem Is that's the scene

[00:24:42] I'm gonna remember From this movie I think that was The point though Right And that's tough For better or worse For better That's a That is That's a Tough spot A really Interesting Place It was a decision A decision was made Even for a wacky movie That was five degrees Wackier than the movie Was presenting I think my problem is Well there There's that That's excellently Excellently said My problem is Is that Captain Marvel Made over a billion dollars And they were like What if we did Ragnarok

[00:25:11] Like they Like they had a Franch I had a property That was a critical And box office success And then they made A silly movie That changed a lot Of what was really good About that movie And so You know You That's really hard For me And the song and dance Part of that Is kind of the Epitome And I think it's also Like anytime I see Like Or try to get An understanding On what Like what does Captain Marvel do

[00:25:40] Like when she's not When she's not around In the other movies Where we're like We really feel like She should be here Then we wouldn't have This problem right And then Like Turns out She just really Loves singing and dancing Like sometimes Sometimes she's unavailable Because she's singing And dancing And so Yeah I Did not like that scene And I found myself Saying wait what While watching that scene Out loud So I had to put in My wait what Dano Yeah This movie gives you Very little

[00:26:10] In the way of A Miss Marvel Refresher If you did not watch it Or you didn't remember it You know what it does do Is give you a full Previously on Of Captain Marvel And I don't understand Guys Did Did Disney Buy out all the theaters Did no one see Captain Marvel And they just told us It made a billion dollars Why am I getting A montage Of the entire Captain Marvel movie And no explanation About Miss Marvel I don't understand I don't understand

[00:26:39] One of those things Was a Disney Plus TV show One of them made A billion dollars A billion It's one of the 30 highest grossing Movies of all time But to start The Marvels We get a lot Of flashbacks As to what happened During Captain Marvel And I don't understand it I don't understand Why that was part Of an hour 45 minute Runtime And maybe someone Can help me out here But it seemed Very offensive To what that movie Was and to what This movie is Right

[00:27:09] Am I wrong there No you're not Okay Alright just making sure Nick Fury has jokes And I don't understand I know Samuel L. Jackson An incredibly gifted actor An amazing actor He's so serious In these movies Like he's the guy That brings the I need you right now The fate of the world They're about to kill Nick Like he is like And I hear in the show He's incredibly serious In this movie He's the most Ragnarok character

[00:27:39] He's got all kinds Of jokes in this movie And it just didn't feel Right It didn't feel Like Nick Fury At all Why does every It feels like Nick Fury Hasn't been Nick Fury In a hot minute In a minute Or that he just always Is a constantly Revolving door Of whatever they need To be Yeah Yeah What Why do all the Spaceships in this movie Have a giant Back glass Like not a small one Like a panoramic It just seems It just seems

[00:28:08] Inefficient And unsafe You need a We're in deep space What if we had A 80 foot IMAX screen size Just glass Back Of our spaceship In case you need To back up In case one laser Hits it And destroys it I just like It just doesn't Seem wise Surely it's Laser proof It seemed like They looked at All of the spaceships From all the Previous movies And went We need it To be more airy You know I just needed To be more Of an open concept And so Let's get a giant

[00:28:37] Back panoramic glass Surely it's bulletproof Shatterproof It's good for the Resale value But if it gets a leak In it You're all dead Who's cleaning that too That's wild It's got fingerprints All over it I do want to point out And I can't believe I had to bring this up And no one thought Of this in this movie The bad guy's Entire thing is We have this thing That's going to suck All of the elements Off of a planet In order to use them To gain more power That is the plot Of Spaceballs I don't Like it's the plot Of Spaceballs

[00:29:06] The parody Of Star Wars Is that exact plot But there's an actual Vacuum cleaner But it's the same Like no one was like Hey I've never seen Spaceballs You've never seen Spaceballs No I haven't Nobody was like Me neither Really? I have the Blu-ray Literally right to the right of me Wow I've never watched it Maybe they knew They were filming Is there a new one coming up? Yeah Finally a sequel Mel Brooks is 100 And he's on the set And what's his name Is Josh Gad Bill Pullman No no no

[00:29:35] And his son Rick Moranis Rick Moranis Is doing something again It's a really big deal How about that? Huge deal That's exactly right And then The other one How bad does Beast look In this mid-credits scene? It was just Like Kelsey Grammer First of all Of all the people That I need to know Will return for Doomsday The fact that Kelsey Grammer Is in Doomsday Makes me not want to see it Not that he's not Not that he's not A capable actor But

[00:31:04] It's Haley Stanford It's like You have such a great actor With a really fun role Like what happened here You had her in the Hawkeye You bring her back here To tease more And then we never see her again I imagine she'll pop up Eventually I mean the pro I mean You know Haley Steinfeld Is obviously still very young I don't even believe She's 30 yet But the character Is supposed to be 22 It's like And who's She's supposed to be leading Like a group of Yeah Teenage superheroes Yeah

[00:31:33] I feel like There's a very finite window For when they can actually do that So even if it's something They do want to circle back to I feel like it might not Hit the same As when this movie came out Three years ago Who was the big star That shows up in The end credits scene In Love and Thunder Who's the big actor Why can't I think Of what that scene was I was just thinking Of all the massive stars Sure Stars that they set up Yeah no it's Charlize Theron In Multiverse of Madness It's the guy from Harry Styles In Eternals It's the guy from The coaching show The

[00:32:02] Oh my god The coaching show The Apple Plus thing Oh Ted Lasso Oh Brett Goldstein Ted Lasso Brett Goldstein Yeah And Haley Steinfeld Harry Styles Brett Goldstein Haley Steinfeld And Charlize Theron Academy Award winner Charlize Theron All in Like all presumably Signed off On possibly doing more Was already in the MCU Yeah I mean so If I had to guess We'll only ever see Possibly Haley Steinfeld Again of those four That's crazy I would be

[00:32:32] I'd be surprised If maybe Charlize Theron But I doubt it So yeah I mean it's like This was like Hey we're gonna do this thing That everyone's been talking about On the internet That Haley ever came back At all I thought it was like You know did Hawkeye And that was it That was fun And then to see this I just got mad I'm like What the heck What the heck brother Crazy Dano Yeah as someone that loved Captain Marvel

[00:33:02] This movie And it's box office performance Pretty much decimates Any opportunity for us To get a Captain Marvel sequel That would still take place Before the MCU started Which is all I've ever wanted Sure Like that first Captain Marvel Perfect soundtrack Great story And then we just jump To Endgame Right There's a lot of room there For Captain Marvel To go on another adventure Right In like 1998 Or 2002 Or wherever And save another world And us to just Kind of get

[00:33:31] Introduced into a story That could stand on its own With Brie Larson Helming the film And us to have A fun adventure The possibilities Were really limitless But since we wasted This sequel On the Marvels I don't think We're ever getting that And that's unfortunate And it bothers me Alright There you go We did it next week Deadpool And Wolverine Both of them Actually Fitting seamlessly With what we're doing here Both and So we'll discuss that Next week You know We'll keep it PG
