BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS

Nadine is hanging out with her friend and they're both bemoaning the fact that her dad is cancelling the pumpkin regatta festival. Why is it cancelled? Well, apparently her dad George is mad at his old best buddy Andrew. There were cheating allegations thrown out there about who won the last race. So no more race!!!

Andrew's son, Ethan, is hot. And he is encouraging his dad to just talk to George and bury the hatchet. Nadine is trying to get her dad to do the same, with no luck. Nadine decides to reach out to Ethan to talk about how they might be able to reconcile their dads. And the sparks are FLYING when these 2 get together. They decide to just start planning the regatta in hopes that their dads reconcile beforehand. Luckily, that means that they're spending plenty of time together. They even bake some cake pops and he touches her face a dozen times. They carve up a giant pumpkin and have a pumpkin guts fight which leads to him taking his shirt off.

They go to get a bite to eat and they talk about their feelings and they almost kiss but pull back - they're keeping this professional!

So the planning is in full force but they keep having to hide it from their dads because they're still not interested in patching things up.

They're setting up for the race and Ethan shoots his shot and they kiss big ones! Her dad walks up and goes WHOA! He finds out that she's been planning the regatta without his knowledge. He's not thrilled. In fact, he's disappointed.

The next day, the dads end up making up. The race is on!!!

Nadine and Ethan talk and he gives her some sunflowers. She says it's time to go on a proper date.

The race happens and the kid who the money was going towards ends up winning, so good for him.

Nadine and Ethan celebrate with a kiss.

[00:00:04] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast. Hi, I'm Bran. I love Hallmark Fall movies. I'm Brian. I like Hallmark Fall movies. I'm Dan and I despise Hallmark Fall movies and this is the Deck The Hallmark Podcast. Deck The Hallmark, it's this podcast. I'm friends host this podcast.

[00:00:39] Yes, yes, yes. Hello everybody. How are we doing today? Amazing, Bram. Coming down the stretch of September. We're coming down the stretch of September. It's almost October. It's almost the holiday season. It's great to be here. Very excited because obviously we're talking pumpkin regatta romance. I'm also very excited because tomorrow previewing a couple of doozies. A couple of doozies.

[00:01:08] Literally a couple of doozies. Is that tomorrow? That episode's tomorrow. Wow. Within Thursday. Guys, get your popcorn ready. Not too much. We make up for how small that preview show is. We make up for it on Thursday with our first Hallmark Christmas preview show. What a way to kick off the season. It's going to be big. Everyone's going to be there except for Ryan. He's getting married that day. He's getting married that day. We're all doing a preview episode before we go to the wedding. That's exactly right. It's a crazy thing that we're doing. That's exactly right. And we'll probably be here for that even though we're going to go to the wedding.

[00:01:37] Well, we'll fly right after. We fly right after. Yes. Good. It'll be close. It'll be close. I think we'll make it. It's worth it for the Hallmark preview show. We got 34 movies to preview and so we're going to kick that off. What better way to start October? That's right. Than by previewing some Hallmark Christmas movies. Man, maybe we'll have some fun sweet treats to eat with it. Maybe we will. I do got to ask you guys. Nice weekend. A little cooler. A little crisp. You guys doing anything fun? Any fun fall stuff, Brian?

[00:02:07] Oh, you know what? I did go to the Orchard. Really? Which Orchard did you go to? We went to Jeter Mountain. Jeter, yeah. Jeter Mountain. Class up. You know, Boston Red Sox. It boils my blood to go to a Jeter Mountain. Sure. I don't think it's Derrick's. I don't think so either, but you never know. You never know. You never know. Down the line somewhere. If you go 10 more miles west of Hendersonville, there's Pedroia's Farms. That's where I got to end up. It's a little smaller. It's a little smaller? But it's in the infield. It's kind of dirty? Yeah. It was good though.

[00:02:36] I mean, no, we did not pick. We haven't picked a single apple this year because that's ridiculous. But it's good to go. I bet it was jamming on my deck. I waited in traffic longer than we were there to get it. And it's got so many donuts that are so good. I love an apple. They're so good. They're so good. What about you doing anything outdoors? I wore long sleeves, which was nice. It was nice to be in some long sleeves. I was surprised, Dan, when you picked me up last week to go down to Columbia. Yeah. You didn't. I didn't know.

[00:03:05] You picked him up and put him in the car. We did not do a lift. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got into your vehicle. It was cool that morning. And you had on long sleeves and I did not. And it felt wrong. It felt weird. But you had on long pants. I did have on long pants. And I did not. I did shorts, long sleeve shirt. Yeah. You did pants, short sleeve shirt. That's exactly right. Yeah. So we did. Together we dressed for fall. That's exactly right. Yeah. But you didn't do anything outdoors this weekend? No, no, not really. You got tattooed. I did. I sat for a tattoo. Did you end up doing your hand?

[00:03:35] No, no, I couldn't pull the trigger on it. Yeah. I got two here and two here. Are you comfortable sharing about your issues? What do you mean? Committing to a hand tattoo? I want. I want. Because I brought it up. Yeah, thanks for bringing it up. But you can still say no thank you. You can still say no thank you and we will respect that. I want a tattoo that extends all the way through the top of my hand. And maybe even into my fingers. He wants to do hallmark. Yeah. The knuckles actually, I almost did the knuckles.

[00:04:04] But I almost said hallmark on the knuckles. I was in a bad car accident when I was a teenager and a part of that story is, I know, right? Is they had quite a time getting a vein on me to save my life. So much so that, I mean, it was dozens of times that the needle was in my skin. But there's, I can, like I sat for five hours while my arm just got needled up and down. It was fine. No problem.

[00:04:31] There's something about watching a needle hit a vein in my skin that drives me nuts. Yeah. And I just, just thinking about it makes me tense up. And so I want a hand tattoo, but I don't know if I can do it. I just don't, I don't know how it would react. And as soon as they start, they got to finish. Yeah. That's the thing. And so I just don't know, man. I want one though so bad. You know what's something that happened to me this weekend? What's that? I didn't realize it was a thing that like, you know, that there's some things that just make you like cringe on the inside.

[00:05:01] It makes you kind of want to throw up. Yeah. You know what I'm talking about? My youngest was cracking his knuckles. Apparently he learned how to do that. And I didn't realize that it was a problem. Like he's pulling a finger and he's doing the crack. And I like, I'm like, bud, I need, I need you to stop. Yeah. It's literally hurting me on the inside. I love to crack my knuckles. But there's a difference between this and this, the single pop. Ooh, the single pop. The single finger pop. Yeah. That was really making me uncomfortable.

[00:05:29] You know what does that to me is the scraping, the teeth on the fork. If anybody's doing that, I'm like, shoot, I just picture teeth shatter. You know what else I hate? Shatter. The fuzzies of a tennis ball. Really? You don't like the fuzzies of a tennis ball. When you are picking something out of the fuzzies. What? What are you talking about? Just tennis ball? Yeah. What about like beard? No, it doesn't. Nothing at all. I'm having a hard time. Guys, don't mess with Bran on this. Okay? Whatever you're thinking, just forget it. Just stop. Totally above board, guys. Just stop.

[00:05:59] Who wants? On record? Yeah. Again? Guys, just don't. Pumpkin regatta romance. Let's talk about it. Sure, man. Saturday, September 26, 2026. How are we going to get this young man to college? How are we going to do it? Save it! Pipe down. Pipe down. Nadine is hanging out with her friend and they are both bemoaning the fact that their dad has canceled the pumpkin regatta festival. Remember the good old days?

[00:06:29] Oh, yeah. Where we would do the pumpkin regatta race? Mm-hmm. Why is it canceled? You might be wondering to yourself. Well, apparently her dad, George, is mad at his old best buddy, Andrew. There was an argument about who won the last race. Cheating allegations were thrown out. So no more race. Andrew's son, Ethan, is hot. And he is encouraging his dad to just try to talk to George.

[00:06:57] Bury the hatchet so that we can regatta race once again. Nadine, is regatta race, is that redundant? Yeah. Yeah. So regatta is a race. Right? Yeah. I think I say it. Regatta race. Regatta race. Regatta race. It's in my blood. Nadine is trying to get her dad to do the same with no love. Nadine decides to reach out to Ethan and talk through how they might be able to get those two geezers to reconcile.

[00:07:27] And the sparks between these two, Nadine and Ethan, are flying when these two get together to talk. And they decide to just start planing the regatta in hopes that their dads reconcile before the race. Luckily, this means that these two lovebirds are going to get to hang out plenty while they're planning this. They even bake some cake pops. And he touches her face a few dozen times.

[00:07:56] They carve up a giant pumpkin and have a pumpkin guts fight. I think that's the first. I think that's the first we've seen of that. While leading to him taking his shirt off and her going, hubba hubba. They go to get a bite to eat and they talk about their feelings and they almost kiss, but pull back. They're keeping this professional. We are planning a regatta.

[00:08:22] We can't just be kissing when we're playing regatta. So the planning is in full force, but they are having to hide it from their dads because they're still not interested in pumpkin patching things up. Wow. Let's just acknowledge that. Thanks. Can I be honest with you? That made up for the regatta situation. Can I be honest with you? Yeah. I didn't even write that down. Whoa. Man.

[00:08:49] So they are setting up the race and Ethan shoots his shot and they kiss big ones. Just as her dad walks up and goes literally quote, whoa. He finds out that they've been planning the regatta without his knowledge on his property. He's not thrilled. In fact, he's disappointed. Something you never want to hear from your dad. Then the next day, the dads end up making up. The race is on.

[00:09:18] Looks like pride in the back stretch. Nadine and Ethan talk and he gives her some sunflowers. My tears. She says it's time to go on a proper date. The race that is actually raising money that helped the kid go to college. That kid wins the race too. So not only is he winning the day because he's getting some money, but he's winning the race. And these two lovebirds kiss some more.

[00:09:44] And that my friends was pumpkin regatta romance. Yes. We did it. We did do it. So let's take a break. We'll come back. We'll break this movie down with four segments here on Deck the Hallmark. Welcome back, everybody. It's regatta season. Pumpkin regatta season, if you will. We're talking about the pumpkin regatta romance.

[00:10:15] Our final fall movie of September. Let's break this down with four segments. We're going to start with a hot ticket. We're going to share exactly how we felt about this movie. We're not going to hold back. And I'm going to start with you. Brian, what'd you think of the pumpkin regatta romance? Yeah. Well, for the record, first of all, right is right. And the regatta bringing it back is right. Like bringing back regatta is right. And that's the bottom line. So that we're starting there. I'm not going to argue that at all. The movie. Someone gonna. I'm afraid.

[00:10:45] I just want to get ahead of it. I don't know. Some people might say, you know, the pride is stronger than the town's desire for regatta. I don't. I don't think that's the case. So the movie I thought was okay. But what I really liked were the characters. Like we had a really like a broad crew here. It was a number of crew. Real broad crew. And I liked spending time with pretty much all the characters here. I didn't care about the story. I thought the fight was really stupid. And spoiler alert. I'm going to mention it on my weight. What?

[00:11:16] Michelle Morgan. A blast. I would like to see her in so many more movies. Like she was such a leading lady. 100%. She was so great. Chemistry with Jake Epstein off the charts. I think they were more fun. That's right guys. Jake Epstein is in this movie. Jake Epstein is in this movie. Not as the lead. Nope. He's the mayor. What the heck? What a role. I think this for me, I feel like I'm more of a fanatic, Jake Epstein fanatic because of this role than anything I've seen. That's crazy talk.

[00:11:45] He was so fun in this role. And all I wanted was more Jake Epstein in this movie. Well, yeah. That's my design. Eight Gifts of Hanukkah. Is that the name of the movie? What is that movie? That movie. He was so fun. Jake Epstein's a perfect boy. He was so great. And then together, they were great. It was like the trial. I was worried. I'm like, I don't know if her and the severe weather warning should be together. I really think that she should be with the mayor. I was rooting for that. Mr. Mayor. Wow. Yeah. And there was a chance for them. I'm like, are they going to do it? Are they going to flip this here?

[00:12:14] And Lola and severe weather? I don't think that. I just was wishing for it. They weren't going to do it. There were some. Yeah, I know. I know. But there were threads here of what I thought could be the beginning of a phenomenal thriller series. Because there were things that happened in this story that I had questions throughout this and I'm like, huh, that's weird. What is up with that? There's more to that story.

[00:12:41] And character choices were, for example, his dad. Super intense in certain moments where I'm like, what? Super intense. What is he going to do? More intense than he is as Sam and the Way Home, a show where actual lives are on the line and at stake. He's more intense than this. And there were, so there were a few moments where I'm like, they just got to throw some thriller music on and not MJ style. I'm talking intense. Cause this is home heart. Christmas time.

[00:13:09] So I feel like we were a couple clicks away from like the beginning of a really good thriller series. And I think that that would be fun to explore. But as it was really enjoyed my time with these characters story. Okay. Um, I will be perfectly frank with you. This is embarrassing. Uh, I love this. This is embarrassing. It's embarrassing for all of us. We're all embarrassed. Absolutely. I'm not. I'm not embarrassed. I'm not embarrassed. I absolutely love this movie. I had so much fun.

[00:13:37] The fall was b-b-bonkers in this movie. Giant pumpkins. Yes, please. Give me one of those. I looked into large pumpkin seeds and whatnot while watching this movie. Shout out big pumpkins.com. Big pumpkins.com is a real site. It is above board. They got to it first, huh? Big pumpkins.com. Good. I love to see that. I love this movie.

[00:14:05] It's one of my favorites of the year. I had a absolutely fantastic time from start to finish. Stim to stern. Uh, top of the. You guys are checking out big pumpkins. Big pumpkins.com. I've been. Yes, sir. You check it out? They beat me to that one. They beat me to that one. They beat me to that one. I tried to get there. Dan, do you remember for Wrigley, do you remember what the name of the seed? It was like the Atlantic Bay seeds or something like that. Do you remember, Dan? Oh. Dan. Oh, I think it was like something Atlantic. Yeah.

[00:14:35] Something Atlantic, Rick. You got to get into that. They beat me to it. Yeah. You're watching it though, I bet, Rick. Every day refresh. That is true. Rick, I forgot that you are a big pumpkin aficionado. A huge pumpkin aficionado. That's right. How's your pumpkin going this year? It's going good. It's going good. I got big honkers.com. For what? Uh, the trucks that I'm trying to sell. Oh, that's right. Big. Yeah, yeah. But I tried big pumpkins first and you honk real hard. That's the key is that these horns on these trucks, they make a crazy noise.

[00:15:05] That's the whole thing. Like that's, remember the feeling you got as a kid when you would go, oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And then they would honk. Yeah, boy. I do. I was trying to bring it back, Rick. You mean last week? Yeah. I was in my Celica. I was driving on the road and I just gave a semi. You drive a Celica? Yeah, sometimes. 100%. 100%. Wrigley, is Fitzy's doing anything big for fall? Oh, we got a lot going on. Yeah? We got our own regatta that's happening. You do? Yeah.

[00:15:36] Pumpkin seed. Whoever spits it the furthest wins. Pumpkin seed regatta. Yeah. Sure. I don't know if that's a regatta. Yeah, it is. It's a race. But I think a regatta by definition. You know what? I don't think you know. You said regatta race earlier. You don't have a clue. No, you're right. I don't know much, but I do know this. What do you know about regatta? Regatta is an organized sporting event featuring a series of boat races. Ooh. Rick, you're in a tough spot here. Yeah.

[00:16:06] Well, we... You smell differently? You actually have to put the seed in a boat, and you put the boat in your mouth, and you spit it. You put the boat in your mouth? It's a little baby boat. Tiny boat. A tiny little baby boat. Yeah. And we're also doing some pumpkin spice tequila shots. Yeah. Yeah. That's interesting. A little spice right on top of that tequila. That's interesting. Yeah. All right, Wrigley. Love you, bud. Say it back. Love you, buddy. Thank you. Dan, what'd you think of this movie? This movie's terrible. Oh, man. Oh, man.

[00:16:34] It is terrible in a fun way. Like, make no mistake. It goes by quicker than movies that just arrive and immediately you're bored. That's not what this is. This movie, I've never been more frustrated with the stakes of a movie than this movie. There are two old gentlemen who disagree over who won a race when they were in Giant Pumpkins,

[00:17:03] and have decided to hold the joy of the entire town hostage over this disagreement. And then two people are planning to revive the regatta in secret to raise money for a middle-class white boy to go to undergraduate college. Like, I just, I don't know what's worse. It was the worst of both worlds in that regard. Is there a lot of fall? Sure.

[00:17:32] Do the two leads have chemistry? Absolutely. This movie's so dumb. It is a dumb reason for a movie to exist. Why is the regatta not happen that's happened literally every year? Two old dudes are mad about the race and who won or didn't win, and they're not talking. I don't think that they should be getting in pumpkins at their age. They shouldn't be, but they clearly were, and they're still mad about a disagreement over a race that is about a 20-meter race.

[00:18:02] It's nothing. And then the guys under which this is brought back is not because the town needs this. It's not because the town thrives off of the pumpkin regatta. It's because there is a middle-class dude who really wants to go to college, but is going to have to take out some loans otherwise. That is the reason that this exists. I couldn't get past it. Do you know how many people are in need out there? Do you know how many people in need in your city right now?

[00:18:30] What are we doing fundraising for this one specific issue that nobody cares about? What are we doing? I couldn't get over it. This movie's so stupid. It's so, so dumb. Clearly a few people cared, Dan, because they got it together. Yeah. Let's get to the feels. We're talking about what this movie gave us. Feel to start with you, Brian. Yeah. I mean, obviously fall feels, but the scene, the moment that made me laugh out loud, you mentioned it in the synopsis.

[00:18:58] It was when Nadine's dad showed up for this ambush of a pumpkin regatta that has been set up and he does go, whoa. Whoa. And then puts up one finger to shush Ethan, who was making out with his daughter at that moment. And I just felt all of that. Like the dad's like frustration and shock. And then Ethan, like getting busted, kissing the guy's daughter in this regatta that they built on his property that he didn't know anything about. It was so funny to me. And yeah, it gave me the feels.

[00:19:28] There you go. I really enjoyed the baking scene in this movie. And we got a really bad baking scene two weeks ago. If you remember that outside baking, bring it inside. And this one worked. And does he touch your face one too many times? Possibly. One too many. It worked for me. Really. This is why see baking scenes like this are why they do it in every movie. They don't work every time, but when they do, it's worth it.

[00:19:57] And so you might as well just let's do it. Let's take a flyer on a baking scene because if it works out and the sparks are flying and the chemistry is there, baking scenes are as good as it gets in the Hallmark universe. And this one was up there. Dano. Yeah. I love that unless I'm right, if I'm wrong here, if somebody tell me, I love that we wait.

[00:20:22] And when I say love, I hate this movie is about a pumpkin regatta an hour and 18 minutes in this movie. There's no pumpkin. There's no race of any kind. And then we do get the race fake pumpkins, fake pumpkins across the board. Look terrible. Not even close. Are you kidding me right now? You talked about growing giant pumpkins. You got brand on big pumpkins.com over here. And then at the end of this movie, you built it up for the entire movie.

[00:20:50] And then the end of this movie, the race barely happens. And when it does, they're fake pumpkins. And I, the gall, the audacity of this movie to do this was just crazy. What would you rather them do Dan? Not do it, not show you? Not do it. Or, or maybe just don't make the movie because it's a stupid movie. You know, lesser movies would have. There's no lesser movie than this movie. Oh, man. Oh, man. Boo! Boo's right. You're wrong on that. I'm not saying there aren't worse movies. I want to put you in a giant pumpkin and push you out to sea. Do it.

[00:21:20] Go ahead. See what happens. There are, there are, there are movies that are worse than this movie. There are no lesser movies than this one. Man. I want to be very clear. No movie in the history of movie making matters less. I used to be in charge of screening and selection for Greenville's first film festival. And there was a movie submitted to that festival called Me Screaming for Two Hours. And it's a guy in a room for two straight hours screaming.

[00:21:47] And this movie matters less than that movie. Is he in a giant pumpkin? How did he do that for two hours? He takes breath, but he looped it to where it didn't. I watched it longer than I showed. So it wasn't actually two hours? I watched about 10 minutes and went, I can't believe I watched this long. He looped it? It did not, was not an official selection of the Reedy Realty Festival festival. What's it called? Me Screaming for Two Hours. So he didn't sit in a room for two hours and scream? I don't know. I don't know how he did. I stopped watching. Well, this feels misleading. Yeah. That would have been from over 10 years ago. So. I wonder if it's on IMDB though. Dude.

[00:22:17] Find out some information. Thank you. We'll get back to on that for sure. It's make me scream. I don't think it is. Me screaming for two hours. Disappointing. If you can find that, Dan, that'd be really good for. All right. We're going to take a break. We're coming back. We're going to get to the Wait What's and the What the Hallmark here on. Take the Hallmark. Take the Hallmark. What's that in the corner there? Where? Ooh. Would you look at that? What's that in the corner there? Malteser? Malteser there. All right. Hi, everybody.

[00:22:47] Welcome back. There we go. All right. It's time for the Wait What's. You okay with it? Malteser. I know you love it. I know you love it. I know you love it. Is it a Northeastern thing? No. That's a Canadian. Is it a British thing? Oh. We have Whoppers, but in Canada, the Malteser is the version that's far superior. What would be better, a Kit Kat Malteser flavored or a Malteser Kit Kat flavored? Oh, my gosh. Malteser Kit Kat flavored. I'm just asking the tough questions here. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good question, though.

[00:23:16] It's time for the Wait What is. We're talking about what this movie made us going on. Sorry, you're right. You want to make me scream for two hours. Josh, in the comments, said he wants us to do a ticket to the tape of the screaming movie. I think we could recreate it. Really funny. Really funny. What are we? We were on Wait What's. We are. The argument between the guys. All right. Oh, my gosh. What are we doing? Immediately, as soon as we realized what it was about, I just thought this could be solved over a dozen beers in a campfire. Easy.

[00:23:46] One night, these guys just get hammered and they fix it. Yeah. That's it. Like, it's over. It's squashed. Pumpkin joke. Put it on the board. I just, like you said, pumpkin patch things up. Is that right? Is that right? I just, I couldn't believe that the central conceit of this movie was, we're not having the regard anymore. Why? Because old man this guy and old man that guy had a fight over who won the race.

[00:24:16] I just couldn't. Yeah. Like, yeah. I get it. Men are the worst. This is the worst. This is like, I just don't understand how this fundamentally is supposed to drive an 80 minute movie. Don't wait for regatta when you can patch things up and squash it today. Squash it today. That's right. So that was, yeah, that's. We gotta do it right now. We gotta do it right now. Uh, the fundraiser to help one kid with college tuition. It just feels like a slippery slope.

[00:24:41] I just feel like we do this for one kid and where everybody else is upset. And then you try to do for more kids. And then where, where, where's the stock? Yeah. Imagine this could be a, what the homework, wait, what anything we need to be. Imagine any other parent in town with a senior in high school who, right. They're going to figure out how to pay for college. Hey guys, spoiler alert. It's all of us. Yeah. Anybody that is an upper middle class or higher, don't even bother saving what we we're looking at $8 diesel. Right.

[00:25:11] And we're like, well, we can't possibly save the quarter million dollars for college. Yeah. This one dude, because his mom happens to be in book club with the other dude, with the other dude's moms book club. They decide that the entire towns. Can you imagine a fall for Greenville brand? If all of those proceeds went to the friend of the founder of fall for Greenville's son so that he could just go to Clemson. Like that is what they're doing here. I just couldn't get over. Yeah.

[00:25:41] Not only is it a bad fundraiser for someone not in need. It's completely biased to the folks that they know. Yeah. It's none of it is good. I know it was pulling against the fundraiser. Yeah. I just so bad. Yep. So it was kind of kind of bugging me. I feel like they used a lot of green screens in this movie. Yeah. And I thought at first I'm like, maybe it's just like a really good, really good photography going on here.

[00:26:09] But then I'm like, it's gotta be, they had to have just had locations where they just needed a nice field and nice walking path in the background and couldn't get it. So it just, I felt the green screens more than usual. Um, and so it was kind of distracting for me. Uh, is there anything worse than two people baking two different recipes in the same kitchen at the same time? I couldn't believe Brandon was like, I love the baking scene. I sure. It was nice for them, but the logistics of it where it's like everybody's somebody else who's using all the stuff you need for your different recipe.

[00:26:38] I just, it was, I was very frustrated by watching. Yeah, for sure. Um, and then, oh, this was something that is, uh, blowing my mind the whole time. Her friend, Allie. I'm out. Hi, I'm out. What was up with her and Ethan? What happened between them? Because she kept doing these little things like she inserted herself between them. She made faces at him. Something happened between them and they never explained it. And it is a, what the hallmark, but also it was a wait, what?

[00:27:06] Because it was like, it's almost like they dropped a storyline or maybe forgot to include a little line where it explained it. So what the heck was up with them? Something happened there. Yeah. Fair enough. Anything else? That's it. Um, I got a few, um, I, I, the kid who wants to go to college, right? Obviously we are going to show you that he needs money by having him have two jobs. Okay. He has two jobs. He helps out at the pad. He helps out at the, uh, uh, diner or whatever. Right.

[00:27:36] At one, at one point, good kid, good work, work. I think. Good boys. Who is that? Great. Um, he's out there loading pumpkins onto the trailer. Right. And, uh, Ethan and not Jonah, Ethan and whatever her name is. Nadine walk up and he says, Hey, Ethan, I actually have a shift at the diner going on right now.

[00:28:05] Is it okay if I leave now and go do that? Yeah. What was his plan? If Ethan hadn't showed up because he's now he's late for his shift at the diner. Yeah. Because he's loading up the pumpkins because he, for whatever reason allowed for two shifts of his jobs to be happening at the same time. I understand this is a high school kid. Times are tough, but was his plan to just not show up at the diner? Right.

[00:28:32] Ethan walked up and then, so he was like, well, I guess I can ask him now, but like he was at the job and he didn't feel like he could leave. And so he's leaving people at the diner hanging. This is tough. This is a good learning lesson for this boy. Definitely. Good. But I was so fascinated that he said, Hey, I actually have another shift at the diner going on right now. Is it okay if I leave early? Which was a bold move. Bold move. Bold move. You got to communicate that ahead of time, bud.

[00:28:58] The pumpkin fights, the pumpkin guts fights. Yeah. He picks out. Worst scene in the history of scenes. He picked, also, can we talk about how absolutely dreadful it would be to be covered with guts and then hay on top of it? Stop it. No, it's just disgusting. But he picks out a pumpkin seed from her hair, right? He looks at it. They look at it for a moment and then he says, I got to save this one. And he puts it in his pocket. That's right.

[00:29:28] It looked like a good one. What a weird way to get out of that. Like he realizes that they're like having a romantic. So he's like, I got a pivot. And he just goes, save this one for later. Weird moment. At one point she's talking about her dad and it cuts over to the dad. And the dad's just filming the water. Oh my God. Fun thing for him. He lives there. I don't know. Just filming. Just sometimes you gotta. She makes up with her dad. Her dad is now squashed.

[00:29:59] Good man. The beef. And he says, go get your man. And then he says, but I'm coming too. He just wants to see it. He wants to watch from afar. It's a fun way. He'd love to see that. And then I do want to touch on the fact that they make up and she says, let's go on a proper first date. And their proper first date is going to be them making dinner together and watching a documentary. Not a proper first date.

[00:30:30] That's a weird first date. Sounds nice. All right. Cool, buddy. You go. Yeah. If I was asking somebody out and they said, do you want to make dinner and watch a documentary? I'd be like, thanks, but no thanks. On to the next. And maybe I'm too harsh. I think so. Maybe I'm too harsh. Dano. I can only imagine that Corey Sevier thought when he was making this movie, I'll touch her face in every scene in a take.

[00:30:56] And then the editors will make pick the best one and go, this will be the moment that we use to sell the chemistry. And the editor was like, what if we put them all in? What if we put every single face touching, hair touching scene can be very, very great in these movies. If you do it eight times, I mean, he touches her face in every scene that they're in. Every scene. And it's insanity.

[00:31:23] Not as insane as I literally thought I was like starting to lose my mind. At the beginning of this movie, we see her dad out watering the flowers in cold autumn weather, whatever. I don't know enough about plants to tell you if you should be doing that or not. I don't. He's watering these autumn plants and they have a whole conversation. Then he goes inside. She follows him in. They talk. Clearly there's an issue with the regatta.

[00:31:49] Then she goes to leave and he walks out and he grabs the watering can and starts to water them again. Same plants. I don't know enough about autumn plants to know how much water they need, but I do know they do not need watering every 10 minutes. Same plants. The same plants again. Crazy, crazy, crazy thing that we just did there. Really cool pumpkin guts and hay fight, guys. You ruined the best part of a pumpkin, pumpkin seeds. You ruined them. You ruined them all.

[00:32:19] Take those bad boys, throw some seasoning on them, roast them. That's the best part of a pumpkin. We just ruined it with that stupid, stupid scene. This dumb argument that they have all movie. They finally talk these two old codgers who are mad about the outcome of a race in a giant pumpkin. And one of them goes, maybe we were being childish. Yes, sir. Yes. Yes.

[00:32:44] That, that what Brian said, you should have, we, we shouldn't be here. You guys are both 70. Yeah. Why is this like life's too short? Life's too short for real arguments, much less whatever this is that we're doing. Um, just, I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe that this is happening. Um, and then I'll say my other ones for what the homework. Oh, good. Very good. It's time for what the homework is where we wonder what could have been. Maybe having a clear, a question we stop.

[00:33:14] What are we still wondering about? I'll start with you, Bri guy. Yeah. There were two specific scenes that I really want to see, um, directed with a horror take on them, a horror perspective. And it was, the first one was when they were digging the guts out of the pumpkin, uh, and they start chasing each other around. You throw the right soundtrack and lighting there and forget it. Somebody is dead. We didn't even mention this and they just mentioned the chat and I had it written down, but yes, he does save that seed for later, but he picks the one pumpkin seed out of her hair to save for later in a way that is just. Mm-hmm.

[00:33:44] Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. You don't want hair in your pumpkin seeds? I, maybe he's, I don't know why he's keeping it. It's all I'm saying. It's all I'm saying. It's a weird thing to do. It's weird. You're very close to a horror movie. Yeah. For sure. Very. And then the other scene was when, I think she was made, his mom was making cider on the stove and the dad was at the table by himself being all grumpy and then he comes in and it's like, he's very intense and he's like, he tastes the cider and he's like, it needs cinnamon and he starts cracking, like violently cracking the cinnamon sticks. Yeah, man.

[00:34:14] Like he's going to dump that pot of hot apple cider on them right now. And like, I just, those scenes just had like the seeds of a great horror scene. He's on it today. Yeah, he is. Um, how do you get in and out of the pumpkins? It's just the. Dan picks you up. I pick you up. Because it's like the pumpkins in the water, right? It has to start in the water. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe you go, you just, I'm more gently. Do you ladder in? Do you ladder in?

[00:34:41] You got a boom and then once you're, you're done, you lift yourself out and then what? Yeah. Get out. I just hope. But how do you do it without the pumpkin? Yeah. Careful. If they're not real pumpkins, it helps a ton. I guess so. I just, you know, I conveniently didn't show us that and I'd like to know how they got it out of it. They had to get in at some point. I know. So I'd like to see that too. Yeah. I'm a little fuzzy on how long this regatta has been going on and how long it hasn't been. Yeah.

[00:35:09] So like we see a trophy at the end that definitely has someone winning in 2021, 22, I think like when is, has the regatta just been these two old codgers racing every year or did the one year they race, there was controversy and they get mad about it. Like I don't like, they never give us any specifics. They just want us to buy hook, line and sinker. This isn't happening anymore because the two guys in charge of it basically got mad at

[00:35:39] each other about the race. And I, how long has it not been going on? Five years. We've, we stopped the, the, the town's favorite thing for five years because of two old men who can't agree on who won a dumb race that doesn't matter. And is it just them? Are there other people involved? I just have so many questions about that very specific, you know, the nature of it. And also, uh, college costs six figures. There are 25 people at this. Did everybody give $10,000?

[00:36:08] Like how did they raise enough money to get this kid to school? It's just community college. Oh, wow. It's just like a couple thousand bucks. What a, what a fundraiser. What a fundraiser. You should start there and then you start at community college and you move on. Whatever you say guys, whatever you say. Absolutely. We did it. Congratulations to us.
