[00:04:20] Originally aired on the WB On May 7, 2002 And it went a little something like this Lorelai and Rory show up at the diner But Luke is nowhere to be found So they head to the Hungry Diner That's the name of the other diner Yeah In town, I guess She had not heard of until the moment Yes The type of diner that In town The type of diner that Michelle goes to So I don't want any part of that diner I'll be honest with you Lorelai heads to her parents' house

[00:04:50] And finds out that Richard Has started his own company An insurance consulting firm So I think someone said That he's going to start his own business He did it But just in doing the same thing That he was doing Yeah, of course Right He comes out of his office mad That his assistant from his old firm Turned down Richard's offer Whatever it is To join his company At a lower pay He's not sure what to do He's like Maybe I should just shut it down Emily's like

[00:05:19] You should just shut it down I don't know what you're going to do without her Lorelai's like Whoa All of this seems quite premature Just hire a new assistant Lorelai agrees to help him Get his office set up And to find some new potential candidates For the assistant job Dean gets home And Rory hands him a letter Outlining exactly what happened He's not thrilled But is relieved to hear That Jess left town So it has been confirmed Jess has left town Right And invites her In for dinner

[00:05:49] Not the reaction That Rory was expecting Almost seemed disappointed In the reaction When she tells her mom She's like He loves you Just be happy That this boy A boy who's large enough To give hugs Not received them Just be happy that he loves you She goes to Lorelai goes to Richard's office And it is a mess She takes the first call And realizes that they need new pens So they go to the office store To get some

[00:06:18] Rory is hanging out with Lane When they see a new music store Is opening up Lane comes back When it's open And gravitates immediately Towards the drums Something that her mom Would never approve of Richard is getting Pretty comfortable Having Lorelai around As his assistant And so when they start Interviewing Perfectly capable candidates No one can live up To Lorelai She's like I can't do this I have a job

[00:06:48] This hurts his feelings And he tells her To just scram Just go Rory is getting annoyed That everybody in town Is only blaming The car crash on Jess Giving her a pass The kid who does All the wrong stuff It's time It's time for an office Opening party for Richard Lorelai shows up And she sees that He finally hired somebody They talk business And Lorelai seems Proud of her dad And what he is doing

[00:07:16] Emily sees the cast And the cast on her arm And freaks out What happened to you? Rory Lorelai immediately Blames Jess And she Rory then pulls Lorelai Out into the hallway And they argue You can't just blame him I did it too Lorelai says He gets She gets to hate Jess For the rest of her life Okay I get to hate him For the rest of my life They agree to disagree On this matter

[00:07:45] Lane convinces The music store owner To let her come practice There a couple nights a week After they close down Rory is getting Is walking around town And sees that Luke is back She goes in to drink Some coffee They talk about Jess And she sees And she tells Luke That it wasn't his fault And he says I know And that my friends Was Gilmore Girls Season 2 Episode 20 Help Wanted We did it

[00:10:44] Dean comes into town Jess leaves town From a budgetary standpoint And from a plot standpoint Super duper convenient Yes And it holds it off We're seeing Lorelai And Richard working I enjoyed when they were Working well together It was really cold When Richard's done with her Or she's in She's done And he's just like Okay thank you for your service But that whole storyline Okay great Not really necessary Lane with the drumming thing Cute fun Every Lane storyline I feel like it's Completely separate Than the rest of the stories And doesn't really Connect enough Yes thank you

[00:11:13] So why Why are they doing that Just so out on Lane Kim It's crazy Yeah I just don't care And this close to the finale With so many important things Going on So many things going on And I've got Lane Kim Being passionate about drums Right Yeah I mean I don't know So it was strange She even mentions drummers Neil Peart Keith Moon And leaves off John Bonham From Zeppelin That was That's a whole other thing Yeah that should be Wait what But so Luke's diners closed They find another one to eat We'll talk about that later The main thing for this was That Dean comes back

[00:11:43] Of course he reads the letter We'll get into it We're all waiting For some kind of reaction The reaction Was bonkers But Lorelai admitting She hates Jess And that big blow up With Rory So really good episode They're all good I enjoy them all But some are white hot And this one to me Had too many storylines That were Inconsequent Or not consequential enough For this late in the season So overall An okay episode Fun But where's Jess That's why I'm waiting for you I do understand What you're saying I do like this episode

[00:12:12] I think it's well known I like Richard episodes He makes me laugh Dan can attest Yes I can attest He did laugh A lot During this episode He just makes me laugh I did find Like obviously I just want It to happen I want whatever Is going to happen Between Rory And Dean And Jess I just want it to happen But I do think That this episode Was another

[00:12:41] Stepping stone On the Rory realizing That she just Is moving Past Dean Like even getting Frustrated How many stones Does she need to I know Well when you Listen When you have your When you Listen This is Dan This is her first love I agree This is the boy And he's safe Her first kiss He is safe He is the hugger Not the hug E And he adores her And he adores her

[00:13:10] He built her a car He is the first person To say I love you to her He is her first kiss And so while it is Obvious to us On the outside That you are Falling for Jess Move on Cut the leash Easier said than done When you're a high school kid And I think Cut the leash That's a new thing You know that one Can I just cut the leash Put it on a shirt Can I say this Cut the leash Can I be honest with you guys Cut the leash You know what I mean What

[00:14:10] Cut it Cut it Cut the leash Give yourself a longer cord You know what I mean You've outgrown that Anyway All to say A frustrating episode Because I just want Whatever is going to happen To happen That's right Also I did feel like A little bit of a necessary episode After how big Last week's episode was And so I like it Rory also has never gone Against her mom Really So her not going with Dean And even thinking of Jess It's the first time She and her mom Keep bumping heads So that's a big thing Yeah Yeah So this episode

[00:14:40] Is not Nearly as good As last week's episode Because it does not Maintain The perfection Of the spinning plates Of last week's From the drama To the comedy To the romance To the whole thing It has its moments But those moments Are kind of few And far between Because we get God It felt like 30 minutes It was probably Eight minutes Of Lane Kim And drums I don't I'm out of Lane Kim I get that That's her best friend From the town She's got Paris She's got Chilton Just We don't need it We don't need it

[00:15:10] I think that there's a lot That also doesn't age well About her not even being Korean And then her mom's just like This Christian conservative And it's like The broken English Is played for laughs I don't like any of it I don't want it I don't want any part of it And I know we're going to get A lot of it And so that sucks So that was not my favorite I don't really like Any Richard and Emily storyline By and large If you're going to use them The best use of them Is them being so out of touch That they don't understand How someone

[00:15:38] Trying to make ends meet Wouldn't Why they wouldn't accept Less money That's a great way To use them But I really didn't need That storyline When we're building All this other momentum I When it comes to Rory and Lorelai And this car crash I think they're doing An amazing job For a number of reasons Number one While I do hurt for Dean Because you know Lisa in the chat Is like reminding us Rory is a teenager And she's right Rory is a teenager Who's navigating this For the first time And this is when you're

[00:16:08] Supposed to make mistakes And supposed to figure it out You know You know Is also a teenager Dean And so My heart does break For the kid You know My heart breaks For the kid I love I don't I do think Rory's trying her best I don't think She's malicious In intent And I don't think That she's trying To hurt anyone And I think That's kind of The problem is If she just go I need to hurt Dean A little bit now So he doesn't hurt More later That would probably Be better And someone Maybe needs To come alongside her

[00:16:38] To let her know that Figure it out I'm not mad at Rory On that front My heart breaks For Dean I'm not mad at Rory Right now She's doing death By a thousand cuts That's right It's brutal Yes It's really tough I'm not mad at Lorelei For being this mad At Jess about this car accident I'm sorry I'm not sorry This You can We can do all We want to do With this And you can defend Jess to the hilt If you'd like Rory shares A very small Sliver of blame For letting someone else Drive her car

[00:17:07] That she didn't know Was trustworthy To drive her car This is not An accident Where It was someone else's fault Unless Something happens To Explicitly Tell me That Another car Came out of nowhere To hit Jess Or something else And he was being 100% responsible What they have Given us Is A very Very important Scene Where Jess

[00:17:36] Is doing a bit About eating An ice cream And tells her To take the wheel That scene Wasn't on accident Right It ruins Rory's defense Of this kid In this particular Situation That is not I was in a car accident When I was 16 years old I put Four people In the hospital The local newspaper Wrote a headline About me That said I was a reckless Irresponsible teen Really On the front page Of the paper Do you have this paper? I My parents do Someone

[00:18:06] Oh wow Okay I do Now Hindsight's 2020 I feel bad About that leak Calling the newspaper In hindsight I can see how that might I'm speaking From very personal Experience Where a lot of people In our church Were really mad At this newspaper The Herald Journal In Spartanburg County That still exists You can probably Find it in the archives Somewhere if you'd like At the end of the day

[00:18:35] I was reckless And did hurt people Period Yeah Now You can say I'm a good person And I think I was I think I was trying to be And my heart's in the right place And I really wasn't trying to I didn't Everyone up personally He did it Period He did it He's asking another teenager To take the wheel At night Because his ice cream's dripping Get bent If you don't think You did anything wrong You're wrong That's the end of this discussion And if my kid Gets hurt

[00:19:05] I want to have a word Now Is my kid Also a teenager Yes But do not sit here And act like This kid is above reproach He's not He isn't above reproach Can he win me back Yes Do I like the character Yes I am not having it Lorelai is complete Like Now Does she need to be better In front of her kid About acknowledging That her kid has Some autonomy To make the choices She wants to make And a kid's growing up And needs to learn some freedom

[00:19:37] Areas But when Lorelai's like You need to let me be mad At this kid Lorelai's right Lorelai's right And I felt that in my bones As a parent And as someone That was the The The teen That was not safe I felt that in my Like soul So I'm sorry Jess is wrong here Period Was it the ska music then It was You had it too high It was It was the ska music I had it too high You start skanking Bumping the ball stones And I did ask my buddy To grab the wheel Yeah And Were you knocking on wood Because you were doing this You

Yeah Did it get damaged badly? Oh yeah Really? Oh yeah Oh my gosh Yeah Everybody So it was a It's a time I turned 17 in the hospital But I'm here I made it You made it? [00:24:03] She said That's his response Correct She was like Don't roll over and play dead Like Give me something She wanted him to be mad She wanted him to show something And it didn't happen I mean The other late Wait what is Oh Michelle is annoyed that Lorelai Comes to the diner Of course the wait what is that Lorelai doesn't know this other diner exists Michelle gets mad He's already eating Walks up and leaves without paying It's a big wait what for me And Lane He's good for it You think so Maybe he has Maybe he has a tab there You guys love my French accent Oh yeah

[00:24:33] That's the good stuff The last one I had was And they were a number But the last one Lane again First of all She's so siloed in her storylines Like it's weird Is this feels or is this wait what? [00:26:28] Listen coffee cups are standard size Like It's so stupid But For these characters To walk into a place That is the antithesis Of what they want and need in the morning I thought it was perfect Although it made no sense They wanted a carafe And three cups Just refill your cup Yeah Exactly I think There's so much about it That doesn't make sense at all Why in a town this small Where everyone knows everyone Would you not know about a diner That is five times the size of Luke's Right All of that is fair game

[00:28:25] The Lane scenes work for me And I don't know If it's because I've seen the whole show And so I already love Lane Well first season She's not having to earn my love They're going to the Bengals There's a lot of Lane and Rory But now that we know That her and Rory and Paris Are just great Every time they're on screen together They are It's like It feels like It's jammed in It doesn't feel natural Yeah The Lane Kim storylines Don't feel natural And I You have the same take as me on that Correct

[00:28:55] They feel like She has contractual obligation To get eight minutes per episode And it has nothing to do With the rest of the show Yeah I'm not The stuff about her Not actually being Korean And the mom Like that stuff is Like the show was made 25 years ago I'm not mad Like some stuff just doesn't age well Right It is what it is That's not the reason That I'm upset I just don't think it It just is such a nothing burger And it's not funny And it's not fun And it just is like Everything else is clicking So well right now It just doesn't feel like it Valuable time taken up for this Yeah
