I don't know, this is good! I showed up Friday night for the Garage Sale Mystery Marathon. You showed up! I was ready to go! I thought you were going to tell him!

[00:01:04] You were supposed to! Brett, sorry man! I watched all 16! By yourself! By myself! Man, just said... And then, come to find out, the live stream wasn't on! Wasn't on! The stream key was wrong! What you're saying is there's no proof that you spent all weekend doing this instead of hanging out with your family. That's right! On my wife's birthday weekend! On your wife's birthday weekend! But you explained how important it was! Yeah, she understood! She's so supportive! So supportive!

[00:01:32] She was like, honestly, I'd be mad if you didn't go and watch all the Garage Sale Mystery Marathon! Which one was your favorite one? I think it was Garage Sale Mystery, colon, Big Time Small Time? Big Time Small Time! Yeah! Crandall's in it! With the handgun! That's exactly right! With the handgun! Garage Sale Mystery, Murder Takes the Stage! The 17th! Damn, is that what we found out? The 17th Garage Sale Mystery? Just a wheel, but murder... Really good? Yes, sure!

[00:02:02] I believe it's the 17th and our first Lori Loughlin movie since The Incident and if you think it's still one and done, no, no, no, she's going to be back in October with another little Christmas movie. Oh, Christmas movie. I was about to say, they've already got another Garage Sale Mystery on the book? No, no, I don't think so. That would tie CCB with Aurora. Wow! I know! We'll find out though, we have our October preview show coming up here. Thank God! With both movies?

[00:02:31] With all three movies. All three movies! There were three? I thought there was just two. There might be two. Yeah, thanks. With both movies. Yes. You are embarrassed just saying, I see your face. No, I'm not. I'm not embarrassed. You are. It makes perfect sense. I'm sure there's other stuff to talk about. The people are relying on us. They sent their watches. They sent their watches too. They can't find this anywhere else. We're about to be in the thick of it when it comes to preview shows. The thick of it. We have our Hallmark Christmas preview shows coming out here real soon. Real soon.

[00:03:01] I believe we're doing three of them this year because there's 34 movies. 12 per. It divides five times. Yeah, we got our Up TV preview show on the books. Rye Guy able to fit that in between all the wedding stuff. Wow! Very excited about that one. And then once we get the lifetime in the books, we'll preview those. And also, it's a fun time of the year, I'll say that much. If you missed it, we did our first look at the schedule, our big schedule. Yeah, I don't listen. I don't even need to make jokes.

[00:03:30] Bran just trying to say it with a straight face is the joke. Our big schedule release came out. It was on Thursday. We went live. You can watch that on the YouTube. You can listen to it. That was a ton of fun, and it's always a big day in the office. But that means that we officially can announce our marathon. It's happening in just a few weeks. The 16th, is that the Friday, Dan? Yeah, ma'am. October 16th. We'll be live for 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 hours. Yeah, something like that.

[00:04:00] It keeps going up every year, it feels like. Well, it just depends on what's going on. So excited about that. Excited about that. And excited about Survivor! Oh, heck yeah. Brian, you're excited? So excited about Survivor. Survivor 51, open era, kicks off tomorrow night. Tomorrow night. I'm excited about that. I'll be joining the Make and the Merge Boys all season long, so you can go check that out. What else? Do we have anything else we got to promote? We just announced a new book. Yeah. Oh, right. We got some ideas, but I think. Maybe an EP? Maybe not every year. Maybe just. It wasn't super like, it wasn't a big financial boon for us to do it. Yeah.

You hear us talking favorite things with Seth and Cody Frizz. That's right. You're going to want more. You're going to want more. You know what I mean? People got that on vinyl. Yeah. They got it on vinyl. All right. Yeah. So we're about a month away from the Hawks. Very excited about it.

[00:06:54] He's ready to go. Apparently, if you're Chris Justice, you don't grill all summer. He's like, finally, you can break out that grill. I kind of like that, though. Every time I go outside to grill during the summer, I'm like, what am I doing? But like summer notorious for grilling. It is synonymous with grilling. You know what? Be the change you want to see. 100%. Thanks for saying that. I'm with Chris on this one. All right. Garage Sale Mysteries, colon, murder takes the stage, is what we're talking about today. That's right. Take it from my head. Saturday. Saturday.

[00:07:24] September 19th is when it premiered and it went a little something like this. We're at a garage sale. Check. And Jennifer and Danny. Is there a mystery? Not yet. All right. We'll get to it. That's the mystery. I'll keep my check box ready. Jennifer and Danny are shopping around, looking for fun stuff for their scarecrow. Jennifer finds a locket in a jacket pocket. That's classic Jennifer, though. Yeah, isn't it? She's always fine on that. Pocket watch.

[00:07:54] Uh, Jennifer is a part of a book club that is going to be doing a murder mystery party for charity. And they're getting ready to do the Lizzie Borden show. And we all know Lizzie Borden. We didn't need it. We didn't know any. We knew everything about it. No one needed to tell us. But anyway, the cast gets into a bit of an argument when it comes to showcasing both sides of the case.

[00:08:22] Some people are like, we don't need to show both sides of the case. It is a murder mystery, though. I feel like she was acquitted. Then, then the book that they're using as like this historical artifact, it's missing. While looking for the book, Jennifer comes across, not a book, but a dead body. That's right, folks. It's a dead body. Isaac Simmons is dead.

[00:08:48] He was one of the guys that was really upset about showcasing both sides of the case. Do they know who did it? Uh, no. So would that mean? That's a mystery. Holy moly. Garage sale and a mystery. Check and check. Um, I'll be honest, folks. There's one guy. Dan, you pointed this out. Immediately we were suspect full of. Let him finish, folks. He's around the third.

[00:09:18] That's right. There he comes. There was one guy that was immediately suspicious is another way to say it. Respectful of. Respectful. The guy who runs the inn. He has keys to all the rooms and also he's just real weird and sketchy. Luckily, Detective Frank is on the case. He was already there because he showed up with Jennifer to be a part of the murder mystery. Uh, so he immediately begins pulling everybody in for questioning.

[00:09:45] Jennifer is helping Isaac's stepdaughter, Sierra, when she sees that she has the missing book. That's right, folks. The book went missing. Where the heck did the book go? And there's a dead body. What's going on? What's the deal? Uh-oh. She claims that she has no idea how the book got into her back in the first place. Turns out only Carol's prints are on the book. Carol is the one who is kind of running. She's kind of like the director and she had the book.

[00:10:15] She was the one that brought the book. And she also just like loves bringing historical artifacts into things that aren't necessary, but she loves it. So, uh, yeah, her fingerprints. All right. Who is Carol? Oh, I already answered that. Sorry, everybody. You got it. It's a crazy turn of events. The murder mystery party is still a go. They're still going to go through with it. And everybody is still in as long as Detective Frank is out.

[00:10:44] Turns out these people don't like being investigated by the detective. Bad news though. Jennifer gets hit over the head with a metal pan of sorts. And, uh, cause she keeps snooping around. You gotta, gotta hit her over the top of the head. And everybody is so incredibly suspicious and yet also so incredibly down to continue with the play. Despite the fact that we have dead body and person getting hit over the head. So they decide to go forward with the play.

[00:11:11] But, uh, you know, Jennifer, her son, her husband, her best friend, Danny, they are all keeping an eye on things. Trying to see if one of the suspects is the person who did it. What we don't know at the time is that Jennifer looked in the closet yesterday. What? Oh my God. And she noted a basket. What?

[00:11:39] And inside the basket. What's in the basket? Three door knobs. Bats! Count them. Now, there's only two. Oh. Oh. Oh. Why is that a big deal? You ask? Well, they had the journal and they put it behind a closed door. People in Hallmark recall that proof. With a lock. Mm-hmm. Okay. It's behind closed doors.

[00:12:09] Behind lock and key. They have all the keys. And yes. But somebody tries to go into this room. It's been broken into. The knob was replaced with another knob. There was another knob. There was another knob. That means it could only be one person. The person who runs the inn. Suspectful of. Yes. That guy from the beginning. And he admits that he did it very easily.

[00:12:37] He then tries to take Jennifer hostage, but no luck found there. He is arrested and everybody is very happy and they agree that they're going to do more plays in the future. I don't actually know about that last part, but I'd like to see more. And that was garage sale mysteries. Murder takes the stage. We're on a text stage. We're on a text stage. All right. [00:13:17] Welcome back. Scoop. Scoop. We're talking. He loves garage sale mysteries. He loves. Really? Scooby does. Scooby loves the garage sale mysteries. Let's talk about this movie. Our very first garage sale mystery, the return of Lori Loughlin. A lot. What did Scooby say when he found out that Lori Loughlin had gotten in trouble? Ruh-roh. Oh, roh. You see? That's pretty good. That's good. That's really nice. Anywho.

[00:13:47] All right. Let's get to it. Bran, I'm going to start with you. We're going to start with the hot take. This was your first garage sale mystery as well? Yeah. All of a snooze. I missed the marathon Friday night. Sorry about that. That's okay. That's okay. What did you think of this one? I liked it. This was, as somebody coming into this with no garage sale mystery experience, I thought they did a pretty good job of either catching us up or just having it be so basic that it was easy to follow. Yeah. Yeah, basic.

[00:14:15] Yeah, but speaking of which, 100% on basic boy. Oh my God. Are you kidding? This guy is just great. Unbelievable. He's 61 years old. I can't believe it. That's not fair. No. No. Not fair. No. Really. No. No. No. So lots of stuff. And there were only a few questions after watching this where I was like, I wish I knew this going into it or I wish, you know, there were little details, but nothing that took away from the show. There was a lot more Lizzie Borden than I expected in this.

[00:14:42] I would frankly, I was kind of expecting this to be very light on the historical. Light on Lizzie. A little light on the historical. I thought it was. LOL. That's what that stands for. Wow. Lots of love. So I was surprised at the amount of true crime facts that came up in this and it was enjoyable. So many, I did a bit of a deep dive ahead of this. I was familiar with Lizzie Borden, but I didn't. Is that why you missed the marathon? It could have been. Yeah. I was pretty deep in it.

[00:15:10] So it was really kind of cool to see a lot of the facts from this story come through. And I, this is a way what, but it just has to be said. It's like you're about to get emotional. Well, it's just, we all agree on this and I know we do. It's just in a situation like this, I think we just call off the reenactment. Like, oh, you think so? There's gotta be another way. There's gotta be another way to have this move forward. Yeah. Like, it was just such a weird thing to just have everybody be like, alright, so. I don't even think the police would allow it.

[00:15:40] No! No! Come on! Can you imagine if Benoit Blanc showed up for this, for the fact that they killed Christopher Plummer and like Don Johnson's downstairs, but they had planned to put on like a three act play. They're fine. And he's like, we'll just keep it going. I mean, it's downstairs as part of the crime scene. They were downstairs. I don't know. It's a whole, so that was a little weird. And that leads into like my biggest takeaway on this was a slight shift in tone here. And we have a really hilarious parody. Really funny. Like I would, I kept thinking of best in show.

[00:16:09] Like imagine if they were like playing it, like, man, someone's just murdered. Should we still? Should we, should we, should we probably do the thing? Let's do the, yeah. And when they locked. Yeah. I mean, we're here. Like the police were out of the way. We'll stay out of the way. We promise. Of course. And then when specifically the scene where they lock the book in the, in the room by itself, I'm like, it would be, you can, I could just hear the lines where the, in the funny version, they're like, should we use the real book? Definitely. Yeah. 100%.

[00:16:37] We should use the only copy and cause we know it's going to get taken, right? Everybody knows. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let's definitely use the real book. And then it gets taken. And so there were just parts of this where I'm like, if there were slight shifts in the tone. Hilarious. hilarious um but yeah i actually i enjoyed this i like this concept of taking a true crime uh story and putting it on the screen and like kind of like that's not what they do i don't know i kind of wish they did because i like this this storytelling uh method because you take a

[00:17:07] real story from real life maybe even an unsolved one you present it and you go through it and you make it you you know mirror the mystery in the show pretty cool it doesn't need a a definitive ending if the this the crime is not solved in real life which i think is kind of cool like just put the story out there so i i don't know if that's what they do but i kind of hope they do uh well i can answer it thank you yeah of course you know yeah you watched them all no they're all

[00:17:33] different oh okay um i take it all back i really enjoyed this and i'm shocked to say that i did because um putting the bit aside i was very hesitant going into a mystery that's you know six has 16 other movies we've uh we've been here before with uh aurora teagarden and it just never goes well and i'm also kind of not i'm not the biggest mystery guy and when it comes to the hallmark

[00:18:03] movies um but this really worked for me i thought that it was uh really fun you know the case was was okay but i uh i felt like they told the story in such a way that it kept me engaged and um i really liked the way that it was shot too like when they would show you clues and stuff like they had a different look to it like it would do the quick zoom and kind of go around and do really cool things

[00:18:27] visually that was really fun and uh kind of kept me engaged as somebody who like i don't want to constantly be told what happened and i liked being able to see what happened and they then they'd zoomed you around the room in a cool way so overall surprisingly into this and i would be open to another one i think it's fun we got you know laurie's great steve basics great the detective guy i thought he was fun and so we got a good group of people a good gang and i can see why these would

[00:18:57] be popular dano yeah so i'm really torn here because i like all the characters immensely and i thought that this movie went by really really quickly it is the dumbest storyline that i've seen in one of these but it was far more entertaining than a lot of the movies so i'm in a tough spot i mean not only was the killer so so obvious like we happen to have it on tape because we're doing we record the audio of

[00:19:26] us watching these movies now take it to the tape take the tape.com if you will um and i normally don't pick out the killer correctly on these like immediately i usually just like hallmark just kind of talks at you until they tell you what happens the first time that this guy's gets a scene by himself you immediately know he does it he's trying to cry but can't he has so many keys in his

[00:19:51] pocket it is so incredibly dumb that we go through this whole thing then they continue with a someone murdered in cold blood to just like continue to push forward to do this play that's just for charity it's not like it's like thousands of tips we're talking 50 people there maybe and not only do they continue to push to do it but she's like well i know i'm in danger because the murderer is still here

[00:20:18] so what if we brought my husband in and then what if we brought our son yeah what if our son could also what if our 20 year old son could also be in direct contact with a murderer could we make that happen for free that's what they're doing here so i couldn't get past how incredibly dumb these people were acting in the presence of a known murderer they know somebody in that house murdered someone and

[00:20:46] they're like well we all still act in the play terrible the killer being obvious real bad but i don't disagree brand i think the way it was shot how quickly it moved and i like it's very clear that laurie laughlin belongs on television on the hallmark channel and so it was a thrill to see her back i think i echo everyone's sentiments to steve basic so yeah i mean there are worse mysteries out there uh it's time for all the feels when we talk about what this movie gave us feels i'll start with you

[00:21:13] brag yeah sure actually dan really quick in your when you were recording live i caught that part where you said uh he did it and i'm sure it was an accident yeah so you caught it was just so blatantly it was so obvious i said he did it i'm sure it was an accident just and it wasn't like i was guessing like 100 no one else had any ability to do the crime but this guy i mean he's even can't cry like

[00:21:38] it's so it's bad it was really really bad yeah i wonder if it's a sneaky dig not not maybe a dig at the people who say lizzie borden's innocent it's like guys it's so obvious yeah yeah yeah yeah uh anyway the so my feels uh i feel a little weird saying it but immersive reenactment feels that part of the the show here was done so well and it looked so cool and it looked like such a cool experience where you're in the room and they're doing this performance for you and

[00:22:06] walking you through the spaces where it all kind of went down i really enjoyed that i thought that was i i wish that this is the garage sale mysteries thing that they always did this because i'd be i'd be more on board to do a little marathon of my own to get caught up with bran uh to watch them all because it was such a cool idea yeah i i gotta be honest i did not expect myself to be uh so happy

[00:22:31] with with laurie laughlin being back i i felt like it was nice it was nice to see her again and it it was like i don't i didn't get like emotional but i did get really happy yeah i got you were you were crying come on be honest i was crying i was crying i i like she's on screen she's out of the garage sale she's talking with her friend and i'm just like this is real like i'm really

[00:22:57] happy that laurie laughlin is back on the network and um you know hopefully she doesn't go to jail again because that'd be a bummer uh because this has been really good this has been really good for me dano yeah so i think that the theme of the garage sale mysteries and i could be wrong i've never seen a single one of them aside from this one is the magnifying glass thing that they do on the side of the logo and they would film when they want you to obviously look at certain things in

[00:23:22] in in this bed and breakfast they would do this thing with the camera to make it look like you were putting a magnifying glass on it which was this like kind of fun zoom that made everything else blurry and then zoom back out to regular um i thought that was cool i thought it was a cool way to kind of like ingrain kind of uh an aesthetic onto a movie franchise that's this is its 17th entry i've never seen the other 16 i don't know if that is a through line or that's something new they

[00:24:14] the garage sale mystery the return of the garage return of garage oh nice uh i like that better let's do wait what shall we brian anything in this movie make you go away what yeah a couple a couple few things here a couple few they did a reenactment rehearsal oh we felt like right up against it yeah yeah right up against up against it for sure so i liked it i wish it were earlier

[00:24:40] like i wish we got a lot more of the performance stuff earlier or sprinkled throughout instead of it just felt like it was crammed well even when the cop is going to be play that role they tell him like hey you have one rehearsal tomorrow then we're going to do the play next day i know like what yeah it's a it's a tight schedule um frank speaking of frank there doesn't know what espresso is uh this guy is he the dumbest person alive he's not bright he's not he's pretty he can be good at

[00:25:05] policing not all policing but he can be okay at it but i think in normal situations he doesn't function as well outside of the uh a crime um we're having the reenactment rate of the crime scene huh i mean it's just this the fact that they decided to still go forward and nobody even was like should we do it somewhere else and like just have somebody say we don't have time we have to do it here the police are fine with it like there was just no explanation and everybody's cool with it which

[00:25:32] was just a little weird yeah though in the real lizzie borden story people were trampling all over that house while the bodies were still in there and so maybe it was just kind of a shout out shout out um and then jen jen character jen said that people are people either think lizzie is innocent or lizzie is guilty and then she says she's undecided yeah you can't do that like just pick one come on i like that come i don't just say it so funny just say one oh man couldn't believe

[00:26:01] it so uh that was that was it for me um i just want to say i i'm i'm all in on murder mystery parties raising money for food food pantries there is something about it that when you think about it too much it is it is absurd but more of it please more of that um when i heard it i was like huh fascinating concepts murder mystery party raising money for food pantry but by selling 50

[00:26:29] tickets what the heck why the heck by selling 50 tickets um she has a murder board in her living room and you know it is really impressive um specifically uh i'm impressed with her ability to get headshots of everybody she has amazing pictures of every person um which maybe they have to send them in to be a

[00:26:56] part of the murder mystery crazy is that would make sense if it was just the three air quote actors but the guy who's the grandson of the author we have an actor headshot of him yeah we everyone on that board has an actor headshot she has put on construction paper yeah what in the world and i'll just say this she says she tells her husband like i've got a plan and he's like buddy i don't think you can be

[00:27:23] surprised or frustrated or anything when your wife has murder board in living room i think at that point you shouldn't be surprised anymore it should no longer shock you that she has plans no one stops with murder board no no one does i'll do murder board and then i'm hands off the rest of the way i i i just i'm just i just want it for me i want to know but again i don't have outlet yeah um

[00:27:48] the murderer seems genuinely surprised and shocked that him saying it was an accident is not enough to get him off the hook it's crazy i he just he's like but it was an act it was an accident so what are you gonna do about it i don't like uh that's why i covered it up yeah that's why i covered

[00:28:13] understand um and then my last one is early at the end of the movie they're all in the living room together they're talking about it and everyone's like great job this was a wonderful job great job solving the mystery and then the son looks at his mom and says i'd say it was nifty now that is a really sweet callback son to mother call back to a conversation they had a couple days ago where she

[00:28:40] said he says nifty or she says nifty or something to everybody else in the room that was not privy to that conversation they're all just like all right yeah sure kid yeah man good good use of the word nifty but i don't really know why you felt the need to pipe up with that one so it's always good you know as somebody who we do bits all the time and we don't really care if anybody is uh in on it so i did

[00:29:06] feel seen in that moment but it is very funny you hear it and you're like oh yeah because they had the thing and then you think oh yeah everyone else in this meeting has no idea why he just said that and that makes me happy dan everyone should have known who this murderer was pretty early on when the woman who owns the book that she believes is priceless comes downstairs and goes someone stole my book out of my room and he goes hey could you take it easy somebody probably went up there and

[00:29:34] took it and just laid it down somewhere what calm down listen ma'am someone probably broke into your hotel room took it and then read it casually yeah and then left it laying around that's clearly what happened why are you so upset it happens all the time it happens all the time people break in for a read that's what's so nice about my in it's so cozy the grandson that shows up they interrogate him

[00:30:01] like they interrogate everybody but the difference is they put him in handcuffs why with no evidence of any kind did you put this man in handcuffs why'd you do it was he a threat to talk to you i like weird weird i get ahead of it yeah brian said that guy was kind of good at policing i just disagree entirely entirely in some context um i we already mentioned it they're still going to do this play

[00:30:29] uh it's crazy she brings her her whole family involved so see if they can also get murdered it's also crazy they almost do then she gets a head injury from a golden frying pan so they're all gonna do the play and then and then she gets knocked the f out skin cussed with with she says she saw stars gang the murderer is alive and well and she has a head injury from the murder and they're like

[00:30:57] but we still have to do the play right 100 guys guys but did you die just give the money to the food pantry and not get yourself killed pantry probably be cool with you guys taking this one for sure for sure um and then lastly but certainly not leastly that's a thing uh at the end when they confront the innkeeper i just want to be very clear they have no proof he did anything zero none

[00:32:45] kept his mouth shut this movie is so stupid for how actually it's not that get a lawyer bud oh my goodness i can prove it you see three it's now two what are you talking about laurie i mean sure i think you got hit on the head pretty hard yeah you're remembering the head injury and the almost murder uh she uh it's time for what the hallmark is where we wonder what could have been maybe having some clarity question we still have what are we still wondering about i'll start with you brian yeah and it's just a thought that has really nothing to do with this

[00:33:14] movie in particular but i just can't i don't even know if we should talk about it but i just um is it almost time for laurie and stamos to go ahead and get on back on screen together oh yeah a little what are we waiting on i mean a little aunt becky uncle jesse christmas story what are we waiting god i think uncle jesse a little too high up still like he's gotta come down where's he what is he doing i didn't what was the last time he had a job i don't think he does a lot

[00:34:27] question like this was right we started at garage sale that's it and nothing from garage sale came back to matter just the garage sale have a bigger part of garage sale mysteries in the other movies i have to imagine at least in the first one right you would think it was a bigger point i i will say

[00:34:55] this it makes more sense than the baking i mean her going around to garage sales and then reselling them in her shop from rags to riches no that makes sense i'm just saying it's called garage sale mystery that's right we get one we get less like maybe one minute of this movie is at a actual garage sale i mean the crossword mysteries there's only three of those and only the first one was a crossword killer the rest of them she just happened to work with the crossword maybe a jumping off

[00:37:09] board here is to get to get everybody to install some tuba doors oh doors that are for tuba players yeah because often you have to kind of yeah so tuba doors she's a big fan of the tuba doors wants to have every venue with a tuba shaped door now i will say a lot of venues i don't think have ever had tuba why do you think that is you think that the hold up is hey how am i going to get my tuba in here

[00:37:38] and they're like it's the worst part i don't think people are for two are you for tuba i'm for tuba yeah ruben uh no i mean i like the idea and if it means more tuba then i'm obviously as a former first as a former first chair tuba player for what would it take to make tuba doors reality for most institutions what do we what do we need yeah what do we need it's a lot of bit is the money's there the money's there thank god people don't believe in it people don't think
